Welcome to the advancing social media world! We all know that Facebook has evolved rapidly over the years in order to stay ahead of emerging social media trends. The introduction of Facebook pages for businesses leveled the playing field for business exposure. It now meant that small one-man-shops could get as much exposure as corporate conglomerates. As long as businesses jumped on board with using the tools Facebook provided to market their business, everyone could get equally noticed. The pages provided a way to brand a business across the internet while provided organic SEO. The gap between small to large business exposure on Facebook slowly grew with increased advertising dollars spent on using the mass media to gain new followers. That is where Social Media Strategist stepped in to make sure business pages on all levels were being viewed. If you have not yet hired a social media guru to help with online marketing I would highly consider meeting with one, especially after the NEW Facebook business pages take effect.
There are going to be a lot more ways to market your business with the new tools and applications included in the Facebook Timeline. In short, it is like Facebook is combining all of the main social media sites in one platform. You will now be able to blog and showcase your favorite stories, organize your timeline, as well as highlight your business accomplishments with the “milestone” feature. The look and feel of the pages will also allow for more creativity and customization.
#1: Look of Page
There will no longer be multiple photos at the top. The page will now have one large cover photo that will be displayed at the top of your page. The only limitation with this cover photo is you cannot offer a deal or advertisement, ask people to like the page, or have your business contact information on that cover photo. Full description on the cover photos here.
#2: Applications
Another big change is with the applications you can display. Now you will be able to have up to 12 applications but only 4 can be showcased in the top row. This means any custom pages that were created will still be viewable and you also can change the photo of the app and rename it at any time.
#3: Insights and Admin Pannel
The admin panel will be better than ever allowing you to view data on page activity and likes, invite friends, create and ad, and lastly request a name change. One unique change with the timeline is now you will be able to view more insight on pages you like. By clicking “like” it will display information such as most popular age group, “People Talking About This Trend” graph and new likes per week. The interaction from fans to the page will also be enhanced with the new Facebook timeline. Fans can now message your business page directly. The message feature can also be disabled in the settings section.
#4: Advertising Opportunities
One last exciting change is the advertising opportunity it will now offer your business page. Mike Hoefflinger, Facebook’s director of global business marketing, said that currently pages only reach about 16% of their audience each week with posts. With the Reach Generator ads, pages can reach 50% of their fans each week and 75% each month.
These are just a few changes that the new Facebook timeline pages will offer your business. If you would like to know more on the changes or how to best implement Facebook with your business leave a reply below or contact us!
